2016 Tsungming Tu Award
Prof. Dr. E.K.U. Gross, director of the Theory Department, has won the 2016 Tsungming Tu Award. With a prize money of 75,000 USD, this is the highest academic honor granted by the Taiwanese Ministry of Science and Technology once a year to international researchers for outstanding academic achievements. Prof. Gross received this distinction for his development of time-dependent density functional theory.

2016 Kenneth S. Pitzer Memorial
Prof. Dr. E.K.U. Gross, director of the Theory Department, has given the 2016 Kenneth S. Pitzer Memorial Lecture at the University of California, Berkeley. The distinction comes with a remuneration of 1000 USD.

2016 Berni J. Alder CECAM Prize
Prof. Dr. E.K.U. Gross, director of the Theory Department, has been awarded -jointly with Prof. David Ceperley, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign- the Berni J. Alder CECAM Prize 2016 for their "ground-breaking contributions to the modern field of electronic structure calculations".
The prize is awarded every three years for outstanding contributions to the field of computer simulations in condensed matter physics/chemistry, statistical physics and physical chemistry. It is the most prestigious European prize in this field of research. The prize money is 5000 EUR.
