Surface Structure and Magnetism

We investigate the geometric structure and the magnetic properties of surfaces and ultra thin films using surface x-ray diffraction, scanning tunnelling microscopy, magneto-optic Kerr effect experiments and x-ray absorption spectroscopy. The films are prepared in situ under UHV conditions by pulsed laser deposition and molecular beam epitaxy. Special attention is focused on topological insulators and complex magnetic oxides.
